college

College it's for everyone

My Blog would not be complete if I had not brought up or even mentioned College. David Grellier is a member of the electroclash band Sexy Sushi. Going by his stage name Mitch Silver he was born in Nantes, France in 1979 but I have always known him for his musical projects College & Valerie. The College project was intended to add in the emotions of David's childhood and by being heavily influenced by American 80's pop-culture he creates a masterpiece of nostalgia. With other releases such as Northern Council and Secret Diary College created the song Real Hero which ended up on the movie "Drive" Soundtrack. It also went on to make it to #26 on the French charts. Like Futurecop! I strongly encourage everyone to check out the music for College does an extremely well job of capturing a the feeling of a decade...all you have to do is listen!  (Videos courtesy of Youtube)

DVAS

Disco is not Dead!

DVAS is a duo  from Canada signed to Upper Class Recordings. The group consists of Dietzche V. & the Abominable Snowman. I happened to discover their album "Society" which released in 2010 while browsing through music on Amazon and needless to say I was blown away by their heavy synth sound and cool vocals. Their is not a lot of information found on these two but I'm hoping we can expect more wonderful music from them in the near future please feel free to check them out!!

Electro Music at the heart

All for the Funk, and Funk for all!

Dave- 1 and P-Thugg are the two men who make up the group known as Chromeo. They are classified as Electro/ Funk. They really strive for the sound that funk took during the early 80's and continued through out the decade. They have performed internationally and have released three albums which are "She's in Control", "Fancy Footwork",  and "Buisness Casual". The best way I can describe these gentlemen is their sound is a blend of Hall & Oats with some Zapp and Roger. The combination works wonderful and music is incredible, its Fun, and its refreshing to hear a familiar sound in the present time. Check out the video below for a short talk with Dave-1 and a live version of "Don't walk away".

The Nero77 Channel

The Music Video: A Powerful Visual

For the artists that create the 80's film inspired soundtrack music their goal is not so much to worry about hitting the mainstream. It would appear that their one goal is to share their music with everyone and to try and give a feeling of nostalgia. By all means they do an excellent job but as far as a visual representation goes their is one man who is responsible for creating the music videos for alot of these artists. This man is nothing more than a genius and his editing skills are admirable.

I definitely encourage everyone to check out his youtube channel here:

Below is a google map to Topeka's very own Vintage Stock. I spend a good deal of time here when I'm free but it is here that you can pick up some excellent films where Neros77 gets alot of his footage from in order to create the music videos. Be sure to check it out!

A time for Everything

I must say these two artists have out done themselves. Protector 101 and Pertubator are artists that are signed to the same label Aphasia records. Their music is very synth related and particularly dark sounding. Pertubator has made his name known when it comes to the Dark synth sound. However I will do a blog post on both of these artists seperate in the future. But now the two have come together to create a masterpiece of a soundtrack that can bring us to all the fear or suspense of an 80's slasher film. They've been working on the project for 7 months and what an appropriate time to release it but here on Halloween week. The quality of the EP is incredible and the artists have taken the time to not just release this version that is high quality audio. They also have another copy of the EP entitled "The 80's Slasher EP (VHS edition) this is going to sound very grimy and really give a sense of nostalgic feel.
Happy Halloween everyone!
