Thank You!!!

I can not thank everyone enough for the feedback and views. I have had a blast doing this blog and I wish to continue it. I love this movement/ genre and I am so happy that I can share it with others. It's a crazy thought that an entire library or world of music can exist but we may never even know about it. So thanks again everyone for stepping in and taking a chance on something new.

Podcast Powered By Podbean

and for my 20th post I simply leave with one of my favorite songs of all time and to me what I consider an unmatched sense of genius from the one and only Jan Hammer!!

Midnight

Midnight City

Last year French electronic band M83 which was formed by Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau released a track entitled Midnight City and my blog would not be complete if I did not at least mention it. Hitting over 19 million views on youtube and becoming the leading single for their 6th album "Hurry up, We're Dreaming". The song has a dream like sound which include the use of Synthesizer's and Saxophones. Please check out the video below courtesy of youtube. Enjoy this remarkable track!!

A New wave again

On the Attack!!

Shawn Ward otherwise known as Fm Attack is a musician/producer and created FM Attack out of his love for 80's synth pop, Disco, and New Wave. He made his debut in 2009 with his Cd Dreamatic and received critical acclaim which led him to collab and create several remixes. The sound of his music is definitely a wonderful remembrance of the New Wave from the 80's. However he does have several tracks with more funk influences as well. I can not wait to see what he will have in store for us in the future but its FM Attack along with several other artists that in my opinion will lead the way for the New Wave sound.

Please Check him out here:

Arc Neon

An excellent sound

Arc Neon is a Synthwave producer from London. He originally has done some indie elctro music but has since dipped into 80's synth experimentation and as a result we are given Night Heat Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The creativity here is simply amazing and is only surpassed by the actual sound. The movie may be fictional but the talent and music is not I encourage everyone to check it out and who knows maybe one day we we'll be lucky enough to see the film.

college

College it's for everyone

My Blog would not be complete if I had not brought up or even mentioned College. David Grellier is a member of the electroclash band Sexy Sushi. Going by his stage name Mitch Silver he was born in Nantes, France in 1979 but I have always known him for his musical projects College & Valerie. The College project was intended to add in the emotions of David's childhood and by being heavily influenced by American 80's pop-culture he creates a masterpiece of nostalgia. With other releases such as Northern Council and Secret Diary College created the song Real Hero which ended up on the movie "Drive" Soundtrack. It also went on to make it to #26 on the French charts. Like Futurecop! I strongly encourage everyone to check out the music for College does an extremely well job of capturing a the feeling of a decade...all you have to do is listen!  (Videos courtesy of Youtube)

Electro Music at the heart

All for the Funk, and Funk for all!

Chromeo
Photo courtesy of Chromeo's Facebook page

Dave- 1 and P-Thugg are the two men who make up the group known as Chromeo. They are classified as Electro/ Funk. They really strive for the sound that funk took during the early 80's and continued through out the decade. They have performed internationally and have released three albums which are "She's in Control", "Fancy Footwork",  and "Buisness Casual". The best way I can describe these gentlemen is their sound is a blend of Hall & Oats with some Zapp and Roger. The combination works wonderful and music is incredible, its Fun, and its refreshing to hear a familiar sound in the present time. Check out the video below for a short talk with Dave-1 and a live version of "Don't walk away".

The Nero77 Channel

The Music Video: A Powerful Visual

For the artists that create the 80's film inspired soundtrack music their goal is not so much to worry about hitting the mainstream. It would appear that their one goal is to share their music with everyone and to try and give a feeling of nostalgia. By all means they do an excellent job but as far as a visual representation goes their is one man who is responsible for creating the music videos for alot of these artists. This man is nothing more than a genius and his editing skills are admirable.

I definitely encourage everyone to check out his youtube channel here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/neros77/featured

Below is a google map to Topeka's very own Vintage Stock. I spend a good deal of time here when I'm free but it is here that you can pick up some excellent films where Neros77 gets alot of his footage from in order to create the music videos. Be sure to check it out!

A time for Everything

I must say these two artists have out done themselves. Protector 101 and Pertubator are artists that are signed to the same label Aphasia records. Their music is very synth related and particularly dark sounding. Pertubator has made his name known when it comes to the Dark synth sound. However I will do a blog post on both of these artists seperate in the future. But now the two have come together to create a masterpiece of a soundtrack that can bring us to all the fear or suspense of an 80's slasher film. They've been working on the project for 7 months and what an appropriate time to release it but here on Halloween week. The quality of the EP is incredible and the artists have taken the time to not just release this version that is high quality audio. They also have another copy of the EP entitled "The 80's Slasher EP (VHS edition) this is going to sound very grimy and really give a sense of nostalgic feel.
Happy Halloween everyone!
Check out the Ep here:

ADORN....

When on youtube I decided to look up an artist that a coworker was telling me about. She was non stop going off and telling me she couldn't believe I had never heard the name Miguel and said I would love this song. Now me being curious I decided to look him up and after watching this video I have to agree she was right.
Miguel Jontel Pimentel is a recording artist who debut with his first album in 2010 entitled "All I want is You". Aside from his own album he has contributed on several albums such as Asher roths "Asleep in the Bread Aisle" and Usher's "Here I Stand". Bear in Heaven

A Bear!!
(photo courtesy of Bear in Heaven's Facebook page)
Bear in Heaven is a rock band from Brooklyn New York. The group was formed in 2003 and since then has had a change in line up and sound throughout the years. They really do not have a specific genre they fall under but some that do come up to describe the band's sound are indie rock, experimental rock, and Synthpop.  Their latest Album "I love you, It's cool" released just this year and has so far received positive views. The band reminds me a lot of the 80's new wave not an exact replica or anything like that but we can definitely see how new wave has evolved for the present within Bear in Heaven's sound.

Mitch Murder, The man from the past

Making 80's inspired electro house has become a trend of the days we live in for sure. Mitch however has made it his goal to try and cut out the club music and keep a true representation of 80's music and culture
Photo courtesy of Mitch Murder Facebook page
Photo courtesy of Mitch Murder Facebook page

He was born in Stockholm Sweden in 1980 Mitch would grow up on popular movies and tv shows of the 80s some of which would eventually turn into his inspiration for his music. Mitch creates soundtrack music which is most likely the reason Rosso Corsso Records found him to be an excellent addition to their lable. On a personal level Mitch Murder is one of my favorite artists within this genre and some of his works are just magnificent.
Mitch Murder has released several Ep's and two albums under Rosso Corssa Records which are Burning Chrome and Current events.

Miami Nights 1984

A Genius...there are no other words

Miami Nights 1984 is Michael Glover from Victoria, BC, Canada. He is founder of Rosso Corsa Records and a revival of synthesizer music. He has signed Co founder Lazerhawk, Mitch Murder, Jordan F and Lost Years to make 1980's inspired music with modern fidelity.

Being among the pioneers of this revival Mike's first project Actrazer defined the Rosso Corsa sound together with output from Lazerhawk. They titled their music Outrun, a genre of soundtrack music with epic leads and arpeggiated synths. At the same time Kavinsky, Outrunners and the Valerie Collective were all contributing to this new sound. Since 2010 Michael Glover has been ecstatic about the success of his second project which came to be known as Miami Nights 1984 (MN84). Recognized by smooth synthesizers and nostalgic solos, this new sound accentuates the carefree feel of the 1980s.

Miami Nights has seen major international support when he released his remix of 'Sombody I used To Know; by Gotye.

When asked about his influences, Mike says he obviously takes from the 80s: "The music, movies, shows, cars, and girls are all running through my imagination when i write a piece of music. I'm not happy with a piece of music unless I can imagine it as the soundtrack to a film or show. Ever since I was a child I enjoyed synth based music like Tangerine Dream, Jean Michael Jarre and Ray Lynch." His name coincides with the original run of the Miami Vice TV show on september 28,1984...

We Are the FUTURE!

We are the FUTURE!

Futurecop! is without a doubt one of the most familiar names when talking about synthwave. The duo from the U.K. consists of Manzur Iqbal and Peter Carrol. In 2008 they met as students and became friends and this was the  birth of Futurecop! The idea is to create the sounds inspired by fantasy and nostalgia and to use electronic music as an escape from the everyday life. The Group gained notice with their song N.A.S.A.

The Group would then follow with several EPs and Remixes for artists such as Foster the People and The Naked and Famous which would expand their audiences to the club scene within the U.K. Which is where the group does most of its shows but they have also toured in several different countries including the U.S.A.

Soon it wouldn't be long before the group decided to host a remix contest of their own and released a downloadable version of their song Starworshipper. Several artists from around the globe took the challenge and the winner was MPM Soundtrack whose version of the song along with the others were later released on Futurecop! the Remixes EP.

Futurecop! has not only released their own EPS but have taken it upon themselves to communicate and collab with several artists from all over the world that are creating a similar sound. They have bunched a number of these artits on collab albums and making them a leader within their Genre.

In 2012 Futurecop! has released a new single called Only Way which is a perfect example of their music that captures what they have set out to bring to this generation's music.

The Hurricane from Down Under...

Their name is De LA Cruz a band coming straight out of Gold coast, Australia with every intention of making the scene with a radical and heavy 80's influenced sound. De La Cruz came on the scene last year after they released their free self titled E.P (available for download at www.cruzxxx.com ). It wasn't long before the bands name got attention and received a feature in Classic Rock AOR Magazine followed up by two music videos and a record deal with Frontiers Records. The band has plans of a full length album to drop later this year with a tour in the U.S. to follow it.

The line up consists of:
 Roxxi Catalano - Lead Vocals
 Casey Jones - Guitar

Tesla Boy.. A new "New Wave"

(Photo Courtesy of Tesla Boy Facebook page)
I would like to introduce a group from Russia known as Tesla Boy.

They have been performing and getting known around Europe for the past few years and wish to bring the Tesla Boy project to America. They have a very unique sound with heavy influences of the genre New Wave calling it Synth Wave. They reach for their musical influences from all kinds of different artists. They have a familiar sound yet add something new to electronic music when compared to some of the more mainstream genres that are out now but with an album already under their belt and several Eps it will be interesting to see what they will do next.

Check out the interview with Tesla Boy by Chris Alker.
